Hardi Aged Care Summer Hill outbreak grow to 12

Hardi Aged Care at Summer Hill has been revealed as the aged care facility in Sydney’s inner west experiencing a Covid-19 outbreak.

On Grosvenor Crescent, Summer Hill, the facility has now reported 12 cases of coronavirus after NSW registered 239 local infections overnight.

An asymptomatic worker who had gotten one dose of the vaccine tested positive for coronavirus on July 27, Hardi Aged Care’s operator Wyoming told Nine newspapers.

Three-quarters of Hardi Aged Care’s 60 staff are fully vaccinated, and 80 percent of its 65 residents have also received both doses of the vaccine.

“All close and casual contacts have been identified. All staff who are close or casual contacts have been tested and have been instructed to isolate. Residents have been tested daily,” Wyoming said in a statement.

Residents who tested positive have been transported to the hospital as a precaution.

Earlier on Sunday, NSW Ministry of Health’s Dr. Jeremy McAnulty confirmed an outbreak at a Summer Hill center.

“There is an outbreak in a Summer Hill aged care facility with, I understand, nine residents affected,” he said.

“Fortunately, many of those have been vaccinated. As I understand it, the ones with vaccination are doing relatively well.”

NSW Health has been contacted for comment.

Photos were taken by NCA NewsWire show health officials entering Hardi Aged Care, also known as Wyoming, on Sunday wearing personal protective equipment.

Dr. McAnulty also said there were also increasing reports of infections linked to childcare centers.

“We are also seeing stories of people where their neighbors are doing babysitting or grandma is looking after the kids in a different household,” he said.

“You must not have visitors in your household, even to babysit your children. We have also seen several outbreaks and cases, particularly among adults in childcare centers.”
